About the Highgate logo and motto

The school’s motto “sapientia et virtus” – Latin for “wisdom and virtue” – reflects its philosophy that in today’s world where knowledge is freely available in the ocean of the internet, it has become even more important to develop good judgement and a sense of ethics in using that knowledge for the good of all.

The timeless values of moral excellence, integrity and honesty are summarized in “virtue”.

The two words together define the ideal, complete human being, with a well-balanced head and heart, who contributes richly to the global world.

The colour green and the image of the tree and plants symbolize growth, nature and nurture and the commitment to be responsible and responsive to Green initiatives. The protection and care of adults is depicted by the young plants under the umbrella of the large banyan tree – a traditional Indian symbol of eternal wisdom and growth.

The image of the globe inside the open book speaks for how knowledge, wisdom and virtue together have the power to change the world and how a world of possibilities open up when one is equipped with the strength of all three.
